It is not rest and relaxation but the righteous resource that we need! How can we
discover the correct, righteous, or right source of grace and truth? In every case we
need to discover the first, or original, source if we want to know what is the right,
accurate, and true resource. To guarantee value and provide a legacy for the next
generation it is critical that we retain and remember truth and its accompanying
grace. So let us consider the first source of both grace and truth. Think of over
‘religious leaders’ known to mankind and compare them to Jesus. Discover whether
they are the epitome of grace and truth or if they are void of one or the other.
Carefully ponder whether their conduct meshed well with their words and notice if
hypocrisy and lies dominate their doctrine. Reflect on whether their life style and
teaching are consistent, whether they were givers or takers, servants or overbearing
lords. As you think upon these remember their motives and attitudes regarding
things, money, and persons. Question their value system and notice whether they
truly are concerned for the needs of self or others. Compare these ‘noble leaders’
with the humble Jesus whom you can and should read about in Matthew, Mark,
Luke, and especially John. Do a theological (study of Jesus) on Jesus as you study
John chapter one and see whether he was first (in the beginning) and look carefully
at verse fourteen and be impressed that when he became flesh he was “full of grace
and truth”. No other religious leader in the history of the world has ever been
described as “full of grace and truth”. Think upon John 1:12 and question your
power in this world today asking whether you might become a child of God? In this
verse there is a promise given to those who manifest active faith (Matthew 7:21)
and begin faithful obedience. Knowing that faith without works makes one equal
with Satan’s demons (James 2:19) should inspire us to rise above ignorance and
begin to do the will of the Father which Jesus chose to do. If we are to please the
Father, grace and truth must be our suit and our white robe, like all the faithful,
must be obedience (Hebrews 11-12).
