There is no God like our God because none of the man generated gods pardon
iniquity, forgive transgressions, quit anger, and delight in mercy (Micah 7:18).
We, his sinful people, are most blessed. Our God has compassion on us and
keeps turning toward us instead of giving the cold shoulder. With his grace,
Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and his Word, our iniquities are overcome as our
sins are cast into the sea (remembered no more). These are the promises that
our God made so long ago to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and extended to us
through the son of David, the Son of God. All nations have been able to see his
glory since Israel was delivered from Egypt. This was only one marvelous
work among many culminating in the gift of his son (John 3:16-17). This
sacrifice was the only acceptable solution to our condition, our repetitive sin.
We needed then and we still need now His wonderful mercy and glorious
grace. How many times he turned again to Israel even though like a sow they
returned to wallowing in the mire and the dog to its own vomit. Mercy is to be
found in our God, but do not look for it among family members, friends, or
coworkers. Job did not find it in his wife, nor his religious and thoughtful
friends even when Satan was powerful against him. The Lord God almighty
was his ever-present companion full of mercy, grace, and truth. Job knew him
and would not do anything other than trust him in the face of death. This was
also true of every hero in Hebrews chapter eleven, all sinners saved by grace.
They rejoiced in this mercy as they struggled through every affliction known
to humanity! They were looking toward the ultimate mercy that would come
(John 1:1-14) full of grace and truth, even Jesus. Jesus himself continues in
heaven to make intercession for us (1 Timothy 2:5). Do we need mercy? I do!
thank God it feels good to know some facts about the God we praise because
his mercy endures forever – read the Psalms!
