Glorify God!

Saint Paul tells the Corinthian church, its individual members, “For ye are
bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit,
which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:20). Like the church today (it was and
is in the world) but that is not the problem (there are too many of the
world’s opinions in the church). We forget, “and such were some of you:
but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of
the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God” (1 Corinthians 6:11). So, we
have this grand reason to glorify God and praise Him because of this grace
that He has bestowed upon the most unworthy, us. It is true that all things
are not expedient and so the gift of discernment (wisdom), through prayer
and study of the Word, makes clear to each of us what we can and cannot
do at any certain time. Therefore, we cannot claim ignorance because the
will of our Lord is written in our heart, inscribed in our brain, and directs
our body to ‘Glorify God’. The fact that we have been bought with his
blood makes us his own possession and so we are obliged to honor his will
and not our own wishes. It is his will which declares that in order to prove
our love for him, we must be devoted to one another, united and not
condemning one toward another. Remembering that at one time we were
extortioners, revilers, drunkards, covetous, homosexuals, and fornicators -
either actually or spiritually – pushes us not be anything other than
humble. Glorify not self but glorify God, allowing him the final
judgement. It may help to remember “He who is without sin should cast
the first stone” and the fact that Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn thee”.
We can glorify God through personal repentance and harmony in the
fellowship. Thinking that it should begin with my brother taking the
initiative probably will not work. Perhaps if it is to be… it must begin with
me!
