That which Santa Claus does not have (Genealogy) but Christ does; a history of
His-story which provides not a ‘reason for the season’, but THE reason. Were it not
for Christ Jesus there would not be Christ-mas and no reason to remember his birth,
life, death, or resurrection. Our salvation and hope of eternal life in God through
faith in Christ all hinge upon the prophetic certification starting at Genesis and
culminating in the revealing through the Word. Jesus, unlike Santa Claus, is real;
born of a virgin, the offspring of David (Matthew 1:1), the son of Abraham the
father of the faithful, and well pleasing to God himself. Some who would never
defend the cause of Christ or the Christian faith lie to their children about the
‘reality of Santa Claus’. These same people in days past wonder why their children
and grandchildren believe in Christmas and neglect the very Christ for which
December 25 th was ‘officially designated’. The essence of Christianity is Jesus,
savior and Lord, not toys and food. Celebrating Christ might include gifts to others
but not before one devotes himself to him who gave his all. Grace and truth came
through Christ along with forgiveness which enables the disciple of Christ to give
the same to others. This forgiveness, along with the entire gospel message, provides
life abundant now and eternal. However, you cannot give what you do not possess
– you can give toys, clothes, food, and etc. because you have dollars, but
forgiveness, love, and grace are given by devoted Christians. What a difference
between the gifts Santa Claus brings down the chimney and those found at the foot
of the real Christmas cross! You thought you had it good? I’ve got it far beyond
anything I’ve ever earned or deserved and you could have the same if you are
willing to lift Jesus up higher than self. Devoting yourself to Him and denying
yourself is the beginning of true Christmas. You giving yourself to Him is the best
gift you could ever give your neighbor or your child.
