By his divine power, God has given unto us that constitute godly living. It comes
through the knowledge of Him and the Lordship of Christ Jesus. Through them, and
by the Holy Spirit, we are given exceeding, great, and precious promises so that we
might be partakers of the divine knowledge to the degree that we escape the
corruption of the world. So that we can, with this knowledge, ‘be in the world
without living like the world.’ Our success in this effort depends upon our math
skills as we add faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly
kindness, and love. All these are divine traits that we can copy from Christ, our
redeemer, as we imitate his example while here on earth. Making us worthwhile,
beneficial, and a blessing; but if we lack these traits, we are useless to both God and
man. Like salt that has lost its saving power, we will be cast out. We have no vison
and have forgotten our first love and who it was that purged us from our past sins.
Jesus who was once precious in our sight is now bloodied by us all over again. The
grace of our Lord yet abides and repentance is available. Therefore, we need to
become more diligent; making our calling and our election sure. Following these
and enlarging upon each of these character traits will guarantee that we shall never
fall ( 2 Peter 1:10 ). For us to neglect growth is to stagnate and die, but to be ever
growing, just as Jesus himself did ( LK. 2:52 ), provides us an entrance into
everlasting life which will be more glorious than we can think or imagine. By being
aware of this obvious truth, we can make no excuse for continuing in sin. It hurts
and destroys both those who engage and those look for a Christ-like example to
imitate. Therefore, let us be like Paul who said to Timothy, “Follow me as I follow
Christ.” Our objective then should be to endure hardness as good soldier of Christ.
Falling and not getting up is a fair description of death. So, you and I need always
to repent and rise to walk in newness of life.
